
The event, organised by the British Film Institute, is presenting annually approximately 300 fiction feature films, documentaries and shorts from some 50 countries.
The Best Documentary Feature in the competition is rewarded with The Grierson Award. The Trophy was created in memory of the Scottish filmmaker John Grierson (1898 - 1972).

The Dead Nation was
premiered in Romanian cinemas on 25 August.
The production enjoyed
complimentary reviews after its screening at the section “Signs of Life” of
Locarno 2017 Film Festival, where it was world premiered.
The film is a documentary essay made up of more than 500 photos of the over 8,500 pics included in the Costică Acsinte collection, as well as of texts by Emil Dorian and fragments from the sound-track of propaganda films from the '30s - '40s. The editing of the documentary was signed by
Cătălin Cristuțiu, the sound design by
Dana Bunescu, and the technical counselling was ensured by
Marius Panduru. The film was made with the support of Cezar Mario Popescu, the one who discovered the photos taken by Costică Acsinte.
