Over 90 Productions in the Competition for Nominations for the Gopo Awards 2020


     91 Romanian films released in cinemas or national and international festivals in 2019 will enter the race to receive a nomination for the 14th edition of the Gopo Awards Gala, the most important event which rewards and celebrates the annual productions of the Romanian cinema.
     22 feature film titles are on the list suggested for the nominations. There are debut films, such as Monsters. / Monștri. (directed by  Marius Olteanu), Mo (directed by Radu Dragomir), Touch Me Not (directed by Adina Pintilie), Queen Marie of Romania / Maria, Regina României (directed by Alexis Sweet Cahil), Thou Shalt Not Kill / Să nu ucizi (directed by Cătălin Rotaru, Gabi Virginia Șarga), films signed by directors that are at their second production, such as Arrest / Arest (directed by Andrei Cohn), Heads and Tails / Cap și pajură (directed by Nicolae Constantin Tănase), films signed by established directors such as The Whistlers / La Gomera (directed by Corneliu Porumboiu), Parking (directed by Tudor Giurgiu), Heidi (directed by Cătălin Mitulescu), Marona`s Fantastic tale / Călătoria fantastică a Maronei (directed by Anca Damian) and The Cardinal / Cardinalul (directed by Nicolae Mărgineanu) and box office hits such as 5Gang - Un altfel de Crăciun (directed by Matei Dima) and Oh, Ramona! (directed by Cristina Iacob).
     Creativ (directed by Ioana Grigore), The Distance Between Me and Me / Distanța dintre mine și mine (directed by  Dana Bunescu and Mona Nicoară), Emigrant Blues: un road movie în 2 ½ capitole (directed by Claudiu Mitcu and Mihai Mincan), Government of Children 3D / Guvernul Copiilor 3D (directed by Ioana Mischie), Jurnalul familiei –escu (directed by Șerban Georgescu) or Timebox (directed by Nora Agapi) are but a few of the 14 productions on the documentary list.
For the short film category, 55 productions have been enlisted. We mention: A The Afghanistans / Afganistanii (directed by Adrian Silișteanu), Bilet de iertare (directed by Alina Şerban), Celed (directed by Anghel Damian), Extrasezon (directed by Ioachim Stroe), Havana, Cuba (directed by  Andrei Huțuleac), Joc! (directed by  Andreea Vălean), Opinci (directed by  Anton and Damian Groves), Patul lui Procust (directed by  Andrian Împărățel), Romanian Tradition (directed by  Pavel Bartoș), Te distrezi? (directed by  Flavia Negoescu and Cătălin Moise), Trofeul Tinereții (directed by  Răzvan Oprescu) or Washington (directed by  Gabriel Achim).
     The pre-selection jury that will decide the nominations for all the categories was chosen by the consulting board of Gopo and it is made of 11 professionals from the film industry: Bogdan Mustață (film director), Cristina Ionescu (film editor), Cristina Hoffman (co-founder of Aristoteles Workshop), Dan Chișu (film director and producer), Diana Cavallioti (actress), George Dăscălescu (director of photography), alongside the film critics and journalists Alin Ludu DumbravăAndra Petrescu, Cristi Luca, Flavia Dima and Manuela Cernat.
     The nominations to all the Gopo Awards categories will be decided in February. After announcing the nominations, over 600 active professionals from all the fields of the Romanian film industry will be invited to vote for the winners of the Gopo 2020 trophies, by means of a voting mechanism ensured by the prestigious audit and consulting company PwC Romania that the organizers of the Gopo Awards established a partnership with since 2011.
The 2020 Gopo Awards gala is organized by the Association for Romanian Film Promotion together with the Urban Film and Culture Association, with the support of the Romanian Film Centre, the National Theatre in Bucharest and Babel Communications.
