Nae Caranfil, Ambassador of Audience Award Film Festival 2016
The first edition of the Audience Award Film Festival (10-12 June 2016) displays a program of films that were granted the Audience Award to big festivals: Sundance FF, Toronto FF, Berlin FF, Rotterdam FF, and also other features appreciated by viewers. The screenings will be held outdoors, in the courtyard of TIAB (17 Arthur Verona Street) and at Cinema Elvire Popesco (77 Dacia Blvd.), the festival being organised in partnership and during the same period with Street Delivery.
The ambassador of the first edition of the Festival, Nae Caranfil, will present the opening feature, Woody Allen's comedy Zelig, a big screen premiere in Romania.
Nae Caranfil: „Audience Awards are like free elections–they are granted by vote, usually anonymous, by people who don't know each other and have no problem in expressing their personal taste. "The Stamp" (or, as it is the case here, a grading system) is applied right away, at the end of each screening, as opposed to an official jury's verdict who analyses everything on the day or the day before the closing gala; then, after a week or soof screenings, impressions are somehow blurred. The film granted the Audience Award is an undisputable winner. The one awarded by the jury may be (and more often than not it really is) the result of a compromise.”
The Festival will present, inpremiere in Romania, the film James White, one of the audience's favourites at the 2015 edition of one of the biggest independent film festivals in USA – Sundance, initiated by Robert Redford. James White, that was in 2015 part of the Official Selection of the Toronto International Festival, as well as of the Locarno International Film Festival, was granted in the same year the Audience Award at AFI Fest. "James Whiteis a drama performed viscerally, whose rich visual and sound textures intensify the dipping into the main hero's unruly life”, (The Hollywood Reporter).
