Film Critics Association 2015 Award for Best Film Journalism

“Dogs” – two awards at Sarajevo IFF 2016

The most awaited-for Romanian thriller of the year, Câini/Dogs, directed by Bogdan Mirică, was granted two awards at the Sarajevo Festival.
On Saturday night, at the closing gala, Gheorghe Visu took the stage to receive the Heart of Sarajevo Trophy for Best Actor. The second prize granted to the feature was the Special Mention of the Jury.
From 23 September, Câini will be released on Romanian big screens, being distributed by Transilvania Film.
“I am immensely happy that Gheorghe Visu got the Best Actor Award in Sarajevo. The fact that he lost 27 kilograms for this role became somewhat of an anecdote in interviews, but I, seeing how he let the character invade his being and live inside him during the shoot, know very well it was much more than that. He was 100% dedicated, and I am so grateful to him for it. Of course, I am double happy that the film got the Special Mention of the Jury -  in 2014, within the Cinelink programme in Sarajevo, myself and producer Marcela Ursu met the French producers without whom Dogs might not have been possible,” Bogdan Mirică said.
Dogs is to be screened over the next months in Festivals held in Canada, Denmark, Israel, Italy, Portugal, Sweden and Spain. The awards won at the 22nd Edition of the Sarajevo Festival were preceded by other awards: International Critics Prize – FIPRESCI in the section Un Certain Regard at Cannes and Transilvania Trophy at TIFF 2016. During the project stage, Dogs won the ARTE International Relations Prize within CineLink, at Sarajevo 2013.
