SAF, the Turkish-German-Romanian co-production
will run in the Romanian cinemas, starting with July 5. The director Ali VAtansever will attend the screenings that will take place in Brașov and Bucharest.
The film featuring Saadet Isil Aksoy (well-known from
Twice Born,
A Beautiful Life) and Erol Afsin (
Mustang,
Homeland) can be seen in Bucharest (Cinema City AFI Cotroceni, Grand Entertainment Băneasa, Hollywood Multiplex, Cinema „Elvire Popesco”, Cinema Muzeul Țăranului, Cinemateca Union, Cinema Europa), Bistrița (Centrul Cultural Dacia), Bârlad (Cityplex), Botoșani (Cinema Unirea), Craiova (Cinema Modern), Cluj-Napoca (Cinema Victoria), Gura Humorului (Centrul Cultural Gura Humorului), Pitești (Cinema Trivale, Cinema „Sebastian Papaiani”), Sfântu Gheorghe (Cityplex Arta), Slobozia (Casa de Cultură) and Târgu Mureș (Cinema Arta).
The director Ali Vatansever will be present on July 4, starting with 20:00, at Vissual in Brașov for the film preview.
Another special screening in the presence of the director will take place at the Peasant Museum Cinema in Bucharest, on
July 5, starting with 20:30. This screening will also be attended by the Romanian co-producer
Anamaria Antoci and of the sound designer
Alexandru Dumitru.
SAF is also scheduled in the program of the International Psychoanalytic Film Festival from Iași, on July 14, from 19:00.
The feature film had the world premiere at the 2018 Toronto Film Festival, the Discovery section and this year, Vatansever
received the Best Director Award at the Ankara International Film Festival, where Saadet Isil Aksoy received the Best Actress Trophy. The director also received the “New Voices” mention of the Palm Springs Film Festival jury.
SAF was also selected in the competitions of two other festivals: Angers European First Film Festival and Istanbul International Film Festival.
The action of the film takes place in the Fikirtepe district, in Istanbul. The urban transformation destroys the poor communities and the Syrian refugees have to take shelter in abandoned buildings. Kamil and his wife Remziye, risks of losing their home. Being jobless for a lot of time, Kamil is forced to accept to secretly work on a construction site. Besides the fact that this way he takes the job of a Syrian refugee, the company that hired him is the one that destroys the area he lives in. The oppression and the anxiety – both in the neighbourhood, where he is afraid of being discovered and at work where he accepted the low salary that the refugees receive – slowly change him. When Kamil disappears all of a sudden, his wife is forced to confront the consequences of his deeds, which seem to be different from what she knew about him. But Remziye refuses to give up.
