The choreographer Simona Deaconescu is the first Romanian presence at the prestigious festival Springboard Danse Montréal and one of the five young choreographers who will create performances and installations, alongside an international dance group, chosen through a long process of selection that took place in USA, Canada and in more countries in Europe. Simona will enter

the competition for the EMERGE award, which means directing a production for the Gibney Dance Company in New York, in 2020. The artist will also present one fragment from a previous performance.
Having reached its 18th edition, Springboard Danse Montréal takes place from June 9 to 28 and it presents works of some of the most acclaimed choreographers in the world: Sasha Waltz, Ohad Naharim, Cristal Pyte, Johannes Wieland and more.
Simona Deaconescu chose to dance solo for the first time one of her favorite moments of her performance “Counterbody”, which brough

her the nomination for the
Aerowaves Twenty18 artist. The event will take place on June 14, at the Places des Arts.
ON June 28, Simona Deaconescu will present the performative installation “Sons and Daughters at the
Usine C in Montréal. It is the first work of a trilogy inspired by the post-punk atmosphere of the `70s and `80s and the beginning of
cyberart. The second part of the project will be made in collaboration with the National Dance Ceter in Bucharest, at the “Ster Popescu” hall, this autumn, alongside the Ukrainian composer Andrzej Hladyshevsky/Monocube and the Berlin artist Amanda Kardinal – as part of a project co-financed by AFCN – the Administration of the National Cultural Fund.
The choreographer and director Simona Deaconescu, co-founder of the Bucharest International Dance Film Festival, presented performances, films and held workshops in important festivals in USA, Austria, Italy, Bulgaria, Turkey, Lithuania, Chile, Romania.
