Radu Jude`s feature film
“I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians / Îmi este indiferent dacă în istorie vom intra ca barbari”, received the top Crystal Globe Award at the 53rd edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. It is the first Romanian feature film ever to receive the grand trophy of the prestigious Czech film event. The film also received the Europa Cinemas label distinction, which was created in 2003 in order to improve the distribution and the promotion of European films in cinemas.
The 25,000 Euro big trophy of the festival was awarded for the first time in 1948 to the Polish production
The Last Stage, directed by Wanda Jakubowska. Among the recipients of this trophy along the years, we can list Jiří Menzel for
Capricious Summer, Ken Loach for
Kes and Jean-Pierre Jeunet for
Amélie.
This year`s international jury was made of the British director Mark Cousins, the Croatian actress Zrinka Cvitešić, the Italian producer Marta Donzelli, the Czech film critic Zdeněk Holý and the Dutch film director Nanouk Leopold. The official competition that Radu Jude`s sixth film was part of, included 12 productions from countries such as Turkey, Slovenia, Canada and Spain.
I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians tells the story of reconstructing a historical event for a street performance. The feature film had its world premiere at Karlovy Vary on July 2, 2018. The film press called it “a smart warning signal” regarding the populism , “a provocative, sarcastic and momentous act of interrogation between the past and the present” and a “daring comedy-drama”.
The film features Ioana Iacob, Alexandru Dabija, Alex Bogdan, Ilinca Manolache, Şerban Pavlu, Ion Rizea, Claudia Ieremia and Bogdan Cotleţ. The cinematography is signed by Marius Panduru (RSC), the editing by Cătălin Cristuţiu, the sound by Jean Umanski, the mixing by Cristinel Şirli, the sound design by Dana Bunescu and the production design and costumes by Iuliana Vîlsan. The producer is Ada Solomon and the co-producers are Jiří Konečný, Serge Lalou, Claire Dornoy, Rossitsa Valkanova, Jonas Dornbach, Janine Jackowski and Maren Ade. Holger Stern is the associate producer.

In the Romanian cinemas the film will be distributed by microFILM, from September 28, 2018.
