The Best Films for Children at the Anniversary Edition of KINOdiseea

The 10th edition of the International Children Film Festival will take place from November 8 to 13. Nine films will be in competition for winning the festival trophy.
The best nine films for children of the year will be presented as Romanian premieres and they will be part of the international competition, together with five groups of short films for different age categories and the only Romanian film for children made in the past years. The films in the festival will be screened at the Eforie Cinema, Cinema Gloria, Cinema PRO and at the Grigore Antipa National Museum of Natural History. The festival will start on November 8, 2018, at Cinema PRO with the French animated film White Fang, directed by Alexandre Espigares, which is considered the closest adaptation of Jack London`s book.
Another long-expected film is the animation nominated for the Oscars this year The Breadwinner/Parvana, directed by Nora Twomey. The film follows the extraordinary story of an 11 years old Afghan girl, Parvana, born in a world of ever changing conflict and oppression, who finds her strength in the love of her family. In the city of Kabul, controlled by the Talibans, the women and the girls are not allowed to leave the house to earn money or to buy food and other necessary things from the market place, without being escorted. When Parvana`s father, a professor, is wrongfully sent to prison, the girl must disguise in a boy, in order to become the only help of her family.
Supa Modo is a Kenyan and German co-production which was awarded at the 2018 Berlinale, Jo, a 9 year old little girl suffers of a terminal illness. When very few things can be done for her, she lives the hospital and returns home. Her mother, Kathryn and her teenage sister Mwix succeed in inspiring their small village Maweni to rally together for one cause – to make Jo believe she has special powers and that she actually is a super-hero.
The Icelandic film The Falcons will be screened in the presence of the director Bragi Thor Hinriksson. He will also attend the Q&A after the screening. Bragi Thor Hinriksson is one of the most beloved Icelandic directors, whose films for the young audiences were as successful as the Hollywood productions in the cinemas.
Outside the competition, the film The Sentries / Străjerii (directed by Liviu Mărghidan) will have a special screening, followed by a dialogue between the public and the team that worked for the first Romanian feature film with and for children after 1989.
The film that will close the 10th edition of the KINOdiseea Festival, screened right after the Closing Gala (on November 13, 2018, from 19:00), is the beloved animation Anastasia, directed by Gary Oldman and Don Bluth. The film was nominated for two Oscar awards in 1997 and it tells the story of the princess Anastasia Romanov, one of the biggest mysteries of the 20th century.
Like every year, KINOdiseea will also have free workshops for the little ones. Some of the workshops of this edition are: an acrobatics workshop with Nadia Buduruși, a frame-by-frame animation workshop with the director Vera Surățel, a scenery workshop moldable with Kinder Express, a production design workshop with Adeline Bădescu, a magic workshop with Magitot, a Set Designer, held by eematico (special effects, green screen, illusions).
