Ada Solomon

  • Producer
  • Born: 03.06.1968 in Bucharest
Graduate of the Construction Institute of Bucharest (class of 1991). “In 1995, when her name first appeared on the end credits of Asphalt Tango, I think that not even her co-workers from Domino Film - where she working at the time as a production manager - could have predicted the extremely spectacular and fast career development in the film industry of this young lady with a background in advertising.
And now, 15 years later, it seems that the accomplishments achieved by the producer Ada Solomon - now member of the European Film Academy – are so many and so consistent that they can’t be summed up in just a short portrait. She’s had the innate qualities to help her along the way: intelligence, energy, consistency, ambition. She’s had the chance of having an elite director such as Alexandru Solomon by her side. She’s had nose for discovering talented artists and the will to contribute to the establishing of their careers. She has had confidence in Radu Jude and she has stood by him when he made The Tube with a Hat (2006), Alexandra (2007), The Happiest Girl in the World (2009) and his feature to be released, Everybody in Our Family, now in preproduction. She also believes in Adrian Sitaru (Lord – 2010, Best Intentions – 2011), in Paul Negoescu (Home – 2007, Renovation – 2009) and in other talented young filmmakers with whom she has already worked with or with whom she is about to, such as Constantin Popescu (Principles of Life – 2010), Răzvan Săvescu (Caviar – 2009) or Valentin Hotea (Roxanne – in preproduction).
She fights for each of them like a lioness, she travels around the world to find financing, she pleads in favor of their projects during international pitching sessions and she takes their side even when they don’t meet her expectations. At Hi Film, the production company she runs, everybody is part of the family, a family that sometimes includes her real family, as well: she is also the producer of Alexandru Solomon’s films (Cold Waves – 2007, Apocalypse on Wheels – 2008, Kapitalism: Our Improved Formula– 2010); moreover, she is very supportive of her older son, who is already showing signs of becoming a filmmaker himself. In 2006, Ada Solomon had the initiative of founding Societatea Culturală NexT and the short and medium-length NexT International Film Festival in the memory of two young filmmakers, director Cristian Nemescu and sound-designer Andrei Toncu, who had died in a foolish and unjust accident. From the very first edition, NexT IFF has made a name for itself by means of professionalism and thanks to the enthusiasm the entire team managed to inspire to the numerous young viewers who have watched the films in full-house theaters. And Ada Solomon achieved all of these things because she doesn’t leave anything to chance, a fact discernible in everything she puts her mind to.” (Cristina Corciovescu, Aperitiff 2011)
