The films signed up for 2017 Gopo Awards


     21 fiction feature films, 15 documentaries and 52 shorts were officially entered in the race for the 2017 Gopo Awards nominations.
     Gopo Awards Gala, the most important Romanian cinema industry event, reaching its 11th Edition, will take place on 21 March 2017, in Bucharest.
     To the feature-length category, 21 films released in Romanian theatres in 2016 were deemed eligible, among these being: Sieranevada (directed by Cristi Puiu), Două lozuri / Two Lottery Tickets (directed by Paul Negoescu), Inimi cicatrizate / Scarred Hearts (directed by Radu Jude), Ilegitim / Illegitimate (directed by Adrian Sitaru),  #Selfie 69 (directed by Cristina Iacob), the animation Mercy Street – Strada Speranței (directed by Ștefan Buzea and Radu Nicolae), or the feature film debuts: Câini / Dogs (directed by Bogdan Mirică), Discordia / Discord (directed by Ion Indolean),  Dublu / Double (directed by Catrinel Dănăiață).
     To the category “Best Short”, 52 fiction, documentary and animation titles were entered, screened in premiere in the last year's national and international competition festival circuit. Among these, mention should be made of:  Mă cheamă Costin / My Name Is Costin (directed by Radu Potcoavă),  4:15 PM Sfârșitul lumii / 4:15 PM. The End of the World (directed by Cătălin Rotaru and Gabi Virginia Șarga), Noiembrie / November (directed by Ioachim Stroe), Șapte luni mai târziu / Seven Months Later (directed by Andrei Creţulescu), Mamă, tată, trebuie să vă spun ceva / Mom, Dad, I Have To Tell You Something (directed by Paul Mureșan).
     15 documentaries entered the long-list of Gopo Awards 2017, among which there are: Doar o răsuflare / A Mere Breath (directed by Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan), Varză, cartofi și alți demoni / Cabbage, Potatoes and Other Demons (directed by Șerban Georgescu), În căutarea tatălui pierdut / In Search of the Lost Father (directed by Ionuț Teianu),  Camera obscură / Dark Chamber (directed by Gheorghe Preda).
The nominations for all 20 categories will be announced later in February.
     This year's jury is made up of 11 industry professionals: Gabriel Achim (director), Oana Iancu (producer), Doru Ana (actor), Raluca Mănescu (screenwriter), Tudor Mircea (director of photography), Nita Chivulescu (editor), and of film critics: Dana DumaIleana Bîrsan, Andrei Șendrea, Dragoș Marin and Doru Pop.
     Following the jury's announcing the nominations, approximately 500 active members of the Romanian cinema industry will be invited to decide upon the winners of the Gopo 2017 trophies.
     This will be ensured through a voting system provided by the prestigious audit and consultancy company - PwC Romania.
     The Gopo 2017 Awards Gala – 11th Edition is organised by the Association for the Promotion of Romanian Film, with the support of the National Filmmaking Centre and of Babel Communications.
