
21 Romanian features launched in cinemas in 2016 were taken into consideration by
this year’s jury for the nominations of the XIth edition of the Gopo awards.
The most important event dedicated to the film industry in Romania will take place on March 21st at the National Theatre in Bucharest.
Sieranevada and
Dogs line up for 13 GOPO trophies in categories such as: Best Picture, Best Direction, Best Screenplay, Best Photography, Best Leading Actor.
An interesting debate occasions the category of the Best Supporting Actress where 4 actresses from
Sieranevada are in line for the trophy:
Tatiana Iekel, Cătălina Moga,
Ana Ciontea and Judith State, alongside Viorica Geanta Chelbea nominated at the same category for her part in the pic
Miracolul din Tekir (directed by
Ruxandra Zenide).
For the Best Director category are nominated: Cristian Mungiu (
Graduation),
Adrian Sitaru (
Ilegitim / Illegitimate), Cristi Puiu (
Sieranevada), Bogdan Mirică (
Dogs), Radu Jude (
Scared Hearts).
Mimi Brănescu (
Sieranevada),
Adrian Titieni (
Graduation),
Bogdan Dumitrache (
Dublu / Double),
Gheorghe Visu (
Câini / Dogs), and András Hatházi (
Orizont / Horizon) are

the five nominees for the Best Actor Award.
The Best Actress Award may go to one of the following:
Medeea Marinescu (

Dana Dogaru (
Sieranevada), Maria Drăguș (
Graduation),
Rodica Lazăr (
Horizon) or
Alina Grigore (
Illegitimate).
The Best Debut trophy may go to Bogdan Mirică for
Dogs, Catrinel Dănăiață for
Double or Ion Indolean for
Mischief.
Adrian Titieni runs also for a Best Supporting Actor award for his part in
Illegitimate, alongside Vlad Ivanov for
Dogs,
Şerban Pavlu for
Scared Hearts, Petre Ciubotaru for
Graduation and the late
Sorin Medeleni for
Sieranevada.

Doar o răsuflare / A Mere Breath (directed by
Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan),
Imagini din vis / Dream Images (directed by Sorin Luca),
În căutarea tatălui pierdut / In Search of the Lost Father (directed by
Ionuț Teianu) and
Varză, cartofi şi alţi demoni / Cabbage, Potatoes and other Demons (directed by Șerban Georgescu) line up for the Best Documentary trophy.
In the category Best European Feature we will choose among:
Saul Fia (directed by László Nemes),
Toni Erdmann (directed by Maren Ade),
La Isla Minima (directed by Alberto Rodríguez),
Rams (directed by Grímur Hákonarson) and
A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence (directed by Roy Andersson).
In the near future over 500 active members from the film industry in Romania will be invited to vote their candidates for the Gopo trophies.
