More than 80 films in competition for the 2018 Gopo Awards


    23 feature films, 12 documentaries and 49 short films released (in cinemas or in festivals) in 2017 officially entered the race for the 2018 Gopo Awards nominations. The 12th edition of the Gopo Awards Gala will take place in Bucharest, 
on March, 19, 2018.
     Among the eligible feature films, we mention Ana, mon amour (directed by Călin Peter Netzer), winner of the Silver Berlin Bear for outstanding artistic contribution, Fixer / Fixeur (directed by Adrian Sitaru), which is Romania`s proposal for the 2018 Academy Awards (the foreign film category), The Anniversary / Aniversarea 
(directed by Dan Chișu, 
Breaking News (directed by Iulia Rugină), box-office top productions, such as Octav (directed by Sergiu Ioan Celebidachi), The Unfortunate Guy / Ghinionistul (directed by Iura Luncașu) and 6.9 on the Richter Scale / 6,9 pe scara Richter (directed by Nae Caranfil), or the feature film debuts Marița (directed by Cristi Iftime), One Step Behind the Seraphim / un pas în urma serafimilor (directed by Daniel Sandu) and Meda  or The Not so Bright Side of Things / Meda sau partea nu prea fericită a lucrurilor (directed by Emanuel Pârvu).
     The most popular Romanian documentaries of 2017, Dead Nation / Țara moartă (directed by Radu Jude), Petrila Planet / Planeta Petrila (directed by Andrei Dăscălescu) and Tarzan`s testicles / Ouăle lui Tarzan (directed by Alexandru Solomon) are among the 12 titles enlisted
for the Best Documentary category, alongside I Am Hercules / Eu sunt Hercule (directed by Marius Iacob),The Trial / Procesul (directed by Claudiu Mitcu) or I Hit, Therefore I Am / Lovesc, deci exist(r. Marius Barna).
     The list of the films that compete for the Best Short Film category include fiction films, documentaries and animations presented in the national or international festivals of last year. Out of the 49 titles, we mention One Night in Tokoriki / O noapte în Tokoriki (directed by Roxana Stroe), Written/Unwritten / Scris/Nescris 
(directed by Adrian Silișteanu), Mrs.Ghica / Doamna Ghica (directed by Cătălin Mesaru, Cătălin Moise), SHumans in Frame / Sechestrați fără voie (directed by Tudor Botezatu), No Man’s Land (directed by Marius Olteanu), When It Snows Outside / Când afară ninge (directed by Conrad Mericoffer), Sisif 2.0 (directed by Toma Peiu, Luiza Pârvu), Cord (r. Ioachim Stroe), Private Party / Petrecere privată (directed by Octav Chelaru), Offstage (directed by Andrei Huțuleac).
     The nominations for all the 20 categories will be announced at the end of February 2018. This year`s jury is made of 11 professionals of the film industry: Igor Cobileanski (film director), Ana Ciontea(actress), Iuliana Tarnovețchi(producer), Barbu Bălășoiu (cinematographer), Radu Corciova (art director), Gabriela Albu (cinema programme coordinator) and the film critics Irina Margareta Nistor, Cătălin OlaruCristian MărculescuAngelo MitchieviciIon Indolean.
     After the jury announces the nominations, approximately 500 active members of the Romanian film industry will be invited to choose the winners of the 2018 Gopo Awards. This thing will be made possible thanks to a voting system created by the global professional services firm PwC Romania. The 2018 Gopo Awards Gala – the 12th edition is organized by the Romanian Film Promotion Association, with the support of the National Film Center and of Babel Communications.
