
In the feature-length fiction competition, the jury designated as winner the film
Song of Songs (Ukraine, 2015, directed by Eva Neymann). The Grand Prize of the documentary competition went to the film
Orphans of the Revolution (Israel, 2015, directed by Igal Bursztyn), while the feature
I Don’t Belong Anywhere: the Cinema of Chantal Akerman (Belgium, 2014, directed by Marianne Lambert) was granted a special mention of the jury.
The awards granted by the Bucharest Jewish Film Festival 2016, amounting to EUR 1,000 each, were sponsored by the Romanian Cultural Institute.
The documentary competition jury was made up of: Dr. Ilan Avisar, Professor with the „Steve Tisch” Film and Television School, „David and Yolanda Katz” Faculty of Arts within the Tel Aviv University,
Dana Duma, publicist, film critic and member of the Romanian Filmmakers Union Board, and Liviu Carmely, artistic director of BJFF, Professor with „David and Yolanda Katz” Faculty of Arts and founder of the film archives of Tel Aviv University.
The fiction feature-length film international competition was made up of:
Cristina Corciovescu, film critic and member of FIPRESCI,
Radu Gabrea (Chairman of the jury) reputed director and screenwriter, and
Mihai Fulger, film critic and editor in chief of the Romanian Cinematheque.
Unfolded between 11-17 June, at the Romanian Farmers' Museum, Horia Bernea Hall, and at Eforie Cinematheque, the Bucharest Jewish Film Festival 2016 is organised by the Art-Promo Cultural Foundation together with the Comedy Theatre, and with the support of the National Cultural Fund Administration, the Romanian Cultural Institute, The Romanian Filmmakers Union, the Romanian Jewish Communities Federation and Henry Mălineanu Foundation.
