Afterimage is a biographic film about the most significant Polish plastic artist of the 20th Century, Władysław Strzemiński. Wajda recreates the troubled, full of hurdles' world of an avant-garde artist suffocated by the Stalinist socialism-realism, during the era of the Soviet leader' full swing. The film has many echoes and references to the contemporary

spirit of the Polish society and to the post-communist world in general.
