The Winners of the 2017 Gopo Awards

     Over 900 guests attended yesterday evening the 11th edition of the Gopo Awards Gala held in the Grand Hall of the “Ion Luca Caragiale” National Theater in Bucharest.
     Sieranevada, the film with the record number of nominations, received six statuettes, equaling some of the most important awards of the night: Best Feature Film, Best Director (Cristi Puiu) - award powered by Banca Transilvania -, Best Actress in a Leading Role (Dana Dogaru) – award powered by Aqua Carpatica-, Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Ana Ciontea) and Best Film Editing (Letiția Ștefănescu, Ciprian Cimpoi).
Câini / Dogs (directed by Bogdan Mirică) also won six awards for: Best Debut Feature, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Gheorghe Visu) – award powered by Audi Romania -, Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Vlad Ivanov), Best Cinematography (Andrei Butică), Best Original Score (Codrin Lazăr, Sorin Romanescu), Best Sound (Sam Cohen, Sebastian Zsemlye, Herve Buirette).
     The Gopo Award for Best Cinematography (ex-aequo) was awarded to Marius Panduru for his work on Inimi cicatrizate / Scarred Hearts. Radu Jude’s film won three other awards for the following categories: Best Production Design (Cristian Niculescu), Best Costumes (Dana Păpăruz) and Best Make-up and Hairstyling (Bianca Boeroiu and Domnica Bodogan), award powered by MAC Cosmetics România.
Doar o răsuflare / A Mere Breath (directed Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan) won the award for Best Documentary while the trophy for Best Short Film was awarded to 4:15 PM Sfârșitul lumii  (directed Cătălin Rotaru, Carmen Virginia Șarga).
     The Young Emerging Filmmaker Award was won by the producer of the film Ilegitim / IlegitimateAnamaria Antoci.
     The Romanian industry professionals and film critics’ votes went to Son of Saul / Saul Fia, distributed in Romania by Transilvania Film and awarded for Best European Film.
     The Audience Award for the Highest-Grossing 2016 Film (box-office grosses) was granted to #Selfie 69 (directed by Cristina Iacob) and Două lozuri (directed by Paul Negoescu).
