79 Romanian Films Submitted for the 2019 Gopo Awards

     79 Romanian productions released in 2018 are running for nominations for the Gopo Awards. Films such as Moromeții 2 (directed by Stere Gulea), I Do not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians / Îmi este indiferent dacă în istorie vom intra ca barbari (directed by Radu Jude), Free Dacians / Dacii liberi (directed by Monica Lăzurean Gorgan and Andrei Gorgan) or Infinite Football / Fotbal infinit (directed by Corneliu Porumboiu) are among the 28 eligible feature films for nominations.
     The 13th edition of the Gopo Awards Gala, the most prestigious event dedicated to the Romanian film industry, will take place on Tuesday, March 19, at the National Theatre in Bucharest. The nominations will be announced by the end of February.
     A record of this edition is represented by the number of the feature films: 28 titles, among which care Pororoca (directed by Constantin Popescu), awarded at the San Sebastian festival, I Do not Care If We Go Down in  History as Barbarians / Îmi este indiferent dacă în istorie vom intra ca barbari (directed by Radu Jude), Romania`s proposal for the Oscars, box office films such as Moromeții 2 (regia Stere Gulea), The Story of a Summer Lover / Povestea unui pierde-vară (directed by Paul Negoescu), Kiss Her! / Pup-o, mă! (directed by Camelia Popa) or directorial debuts like Charleston (directed by Andrei Creţulescu), Soldiers / Soldații. Poveste din Ferentari (directed by Ivana Mladenović), A Decent Man / Un om la locul lui (directed by Hadrian Marcu) and C Several Conversations About a Very Tall Girl / Câteva conversații despre o fată foarte înaltă (directed by Bogdan Theodor Olteanu).
     Anniversary / Aniversare (directed by Claudiu Mitcu), Caisă (directed by Alexandru Mavrodineanu), Free dacians / Dacii liberi (directed by Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan and Andrei Gorgan), Infinite Football / Fotbal infinit (directed by Corneliu Porumboiu), Licu, a Romanian Story / Licu, o poveste românească (directed by Ana Dumitrescu), Untamed Romania / România neîmblânzită (directed by Tom Barton Humphreys) and Pregnant in Romania / Sunt însărcinată, în România (directed by Jesús del Cerro) are just some of the titles suggested for the nominations for the Best Documentary category.
     For the Best Short Film category, 48 productions were submitted. We mention here Cutezătorii (directed by Tudor Botezatu), Sunday / Duminică (directed by Dorian Boguță), Cele două execuții ale Mareșalului - o comparație (directed by Radu Jude), E.T.was here / E.T. a fost aici (directed by Ana Agopian), Ivy / Iederă (directed by Sarra Tsorakidis), Miss Sueño (directed by Radu Potcoavă), A Christmas Gift / Cadoul de Crăciun (directed by Bogdan Mureșanu), Michelangelo (directed by Anghel Damian) and T Everything Is Far Away / Totul e foarte departe (directed by Emanuel Pârvu).
     The selection jury, decided by the consultative board of the Gopo Awards is made of 11 professionals of the local film industry - Daniel Sandu (director), Mirela Oprișor(actress), Constantin Chelba (operator), Horea Murgu (sound engineer), Ileana Cecanu (distributor), Andrei Tănăsescu (programmer and curator) – and film critics, theoreticians and journalists - Ana Maria Sandu, Anca Grădinariu, Georgiana Mușat, Cătălin Mesaru, Christian Ferencz-Flatz.
     After the jury will announce the nominees, over 600 active members of the Romanian film industry will be invited to vote for the winners of the 2019 Gopo trophies. This thing will be possible with the help of a vote system ensured by the prestigious audit and consultancy company PwC Romania.
     The 2019 Gopo Awards Gala – edition 13 is organized by the Romanian Film Promotion Association together with the Film and Urban Culture Association, with the support of the Romanian Film Center, the National Theatre of Bucharest and Babel Communications.
