TIFF Music Nights at Urania Palace, Cluj 2016


     For a week, the Transylvania International Film Festival (27 May – 5 June) will bring to life one of the newest cultural spaces in Cluj, the Urania Palace, with good music and resounding contemporary rock and electro names, under the umbrella of TIFF Music Nights.
     The TIFF House will host, in its turn, evenings of jazz, rock, electro and spectacular DJ sets, and Alexandrina will celebrate the anniversary of 10 years of concerts performed at the Students' Cultural House. The tickets may be bought in advance at www.biletmaster.ro.
     Six Romanian bands, a Polish DJ considered one of the most interesting upcoming electro artistis, Baasch, are the poster headlines for TIFF Music Nights, held in the new location Urania Palace (4 Horea Street). So during these evenings, starting at 21.00, the audience will listen live some of the most acclaimed Romanian alternative music bands: The Mono Jacks (28 May), Byron (29 May), Șuie Paparude (1 June) with Orkid opening, Omul cu Șobolani (2 June), Urma (3 June) and Vița de Vie (4 June), alongside Baasch (Poland) and Baba Dochia (31 May).
     At the TIFF House, concerts will start at 22.00. Saturday, 28 May, will open the series Garbanotas Bosistas, a neo-psychedelic rock band from Vilnius, Lithuania, and admission will be free of charge for Sunday night, 29 May, Coma is preparing an unplugged concert.
     Versatile and with a totally special vision, launched under the name Bang Gang and portrayed as one of the most enigmatic recent appearances on the Iceland scene, Bardi Johannsson will come to the TIFF House on Monday, 30 May, with a DJ set remixing images and sound tracks composed by him.
     De Beren Gieren, a name more and more familiar to European jazz lovers, is an acoustic-electronic Dutch/Belgian trio remarkable for their unique, experimental sound and the compositions’ complexity. Cluj audience will have the opportunity to listen to them on Tuesday, 31 May, at the TIFF House. The Americans of A Hawk and a Hacksaw will set the TIFF House on fire, on 1 June, from 22.00, with strong hits inspired from Romanian folklore. One of the band's albums, The Way the Wind Blows (2006), was recorded together with the Zece Prăjini Brass Band.
     A totally different experience will be the meeting with a novel band, Rough Romanian Soul, an original re-visiting of the Romanian traditional music. Zmei3, the Romanian band that won over the hearts of Berlin jazz lovers, will play at the TIFF House on 2 June.
