Alone at My Wedding / Seule a mon marriage, a Belgian-Romanian co-production, directed by Marta Bergman was selected in the ACID programme (Association pour le cinéma indépendant et sa diffusion) at the 2018 Cannes International Film Festival. The event will take part from May 9 to 18, 2018 and the film will have its world premiere there.
Produced by the Belgian company Frakas Productions and shot in Romania and Belgium, the film stars the young Romanian actress Alina Șerban and the Belgian actor Tom Vermeir.
Alone at My Wedding / Seule a mon marriage, is Marta Bergman`s feature film directorial debut. The Bucharest-born director is the author of some documentaries about the Roma community and about the women issues in the contemporary society. Her productions were screened in festivals such as Visions du Réel and Leipzig Film Festival.
Alone at My Wedding / Seule a mon marriage is the story of Pamela, a young woman of the Roma community who is spontaneous and funny. She lives with her two-year old child and with her grandmother in a small hut, sharing the same bed. She dreams of freedom and embarks on a journey into the unknown, breaking away from the traditions that suffocate her. She hopes to get married in order to change her own destiny and that

of her daughter. It is a story about the courage and determination to go beyond her condition.
Born into a Roma family in Romania, Alina Șerban plays the part of Pamela. Ahe is an actress and director and studied drama in Bucharest, then at RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) in London and the Tisch School of the Arts in New York. She is very committed to the cause of the Roma community and made her name in the theatre with her
one woman show “I Declare at My Own Risk”, which she both wrote and performed. Pamela is her first main role in a feature film.
Tom Vermeir is a well-established stage and TV actor and musician. he had a lead role in
Belgica(2016), a film directed by Félix van Groeningen, which was presented at the Sundance Film Festival in 2016.
The cast list includes other names, such as Rebeca Anghel, Marie Denarnaud, Marian Șamu, Viorica Tudor, Johan Leysen, Karin Tanghe and Jonas Bloquet.
The screenplay was written by Marta Bergman and Laurent Brandenbourger in collaboration with Boris Lojkine and Katell Quillévéré and the script was signed by Andra Bărbuică. The art direction was signed by Marina Obradovic and Igor Gabriel and the music was composed by Vlaicu Golcea.
The ACID programme started 25 years ago and it represents a parallel programme at the Cannes Film Festival, including ten films that the Association chooses to support after their release. The selection made by the filmmakers who are members of ACID comprises French and foreign feature films, fiction and documentaries, selected from several hundred submissions from all over the world.
