„Romanian Wooden Churches” to be premiered on March 9th

Biserici de lemn din România (Romanian Wooden Churches), directed by Kiki Vasilescu, the most recent project of „East Movies” Production Studio, is to be premiered on March 9th, 6:15 pm, at the Cinema of the Museum of the Romanian Peasant.
The documentary film will be available for sale on DVD, together with the Historia magazine and the album entitled „Wooden edifices. Village churches of Sălaj”, part of the collection Igloo Patrimony.
Romanian Wooden Churches was filmed in Oltenia, Banat and Transylvania, representing an incursion into territories of our country with typical Romanian monuments, but less known than those in Maramureș.
„The considerable difference in popularity separating the wooden churches from the great ecclesiastical ensembles erected in Putna, Suceava, Curtea de Argeș, Hurezi, Biertan or in Alba Iulia is given not only by the servitudes imposed by construction materials, by rank and by resources specific to the social communities they represent. The former are – without exception – village churches. The latter are grand buildings built by rulers, Episcopalian headquarters or representative constructions for Medieval capitals. But both categories are equivalent as regards their authenticity and historical significance,” Cristian Brăcăcescu explained – architect.
