The first edition of the Festivalul Bucharest Best Comedy Film, November 22 – 27, 2019, brings a remarkable selection of international and Romanian comedy films. a tour of the world from 10 film perspectives and two special guests:
Radu Mihăileanu and
Horațiu Mălăele.Last year, in the festival preparation period,
Franco Nero was the special guest.
The selection for the Romanian competition includes comedies produced in the past few years. The screenings will take place at Grand Cinema&More Băneasa,
Cineplexx Titan and Arcub.
The international selection includes 10 films from all over the world: USA, England, Israel, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Argentina. Singapore. Many of them are Romanian premieres. The films cover the great majority of comedy genres: black comedy, fantasy comedy, historical comedy, social comedy, political comedy, drama comedy, thriller comedy, author comedy and last, but not least, romantic comedy.
CRAZY RICH ASIANS, directed by John M.Chu, will be screened in premiere in Romania at the Opening Gala which will take place on November 22, from 19:30.
VICE, directed by Adam McKay is a political comedy based on the life of Dick Cheney, exceptionally played by Christian Bale.
REBELLES, directed by Allan Mauduit, is a sparkly black comedy, full of action, which brings the story of a trio o strong women; it is also a Romanian premiere. HEAVY TRIP, directed by Juuso Laation and Jukka Vidgren is a road movie type of comedy which tells the story of a metal rock band called Impaled rectum which rehearsed for 12 years, without having one concert.
ALL ABOUT ME directed by Carolina Link is screened in premiere in Romania, after being a huge box office success in Germany.
TEL AVIV ON FIRE, directed by Sameh Zoabi is an Israeli comedy which was awarded in many festivals, including the 2018 Venice Film Festival. It recently received a nomination from the European Film Academy for the Best Comedy.
THE PARTY, directed by Sally Potter is a social comedy which premiered during the Berlin International Film Festival.
RE LOCA is a comedy directed by Martino Zaidelis, based on the fantasy of what would happen if you could suddenly say everything you really believe. The director Martino Zaidelis will be a guest of the festival and he will hold a masterclass at Arcub, on November 24.
LIFE OF THE PARTY, directed by Ben Falcone and starring Melissa McCartky (Deanna) tells the story of a middle aged mother who decides to go back to college to finish her studies.
BENEDETTA FOLLIA, directed by Carlo Verdone brings to the screen a love story in the dating apps era.
The Sourse / La Source des femmes directed by Radu Mihăileanu is a French comedy starring Leïla Bekhti and Hafsia Herzi, which will be screened outside the competition. The film premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival, where Radu Mihăileanu was nominated for a Palme d'Or. Radu Mihăileanu the guest of honour of the festival and he will hold a Masterclass on November 26, starting with 15.00 at Arcub. During the Closing Gala, on November 27, the famous filmmaker and screenwriter will receive the
Award for the important contribution brought to the European cinema.
6.9 on the Richter Scale / 6,9 pe scara Richter directed by Nae Caranfil is a comedy which tells the story of a stage actor in his 30s, who hardly navigates between a complicated part in a musical, a jealous and depressed wife and the obsession of an imminent, devastating earthquake,
predicted by all the experts. The screening will take place in the presence of the film team, followed by a Q&A.
Two lottery Tickets / Două lozuri directed by Paul Negoescu, stars Dragoș Bucur, Dorian Boguță și Alexandru Papadopol.
Ghinionistul, directed by Iura Luncasu, is about us. And it`s about laughing about it.
Silent Wedding / Nunta Mută, directed by Horatiu Malaele, is a film about the absurd history and it stars Meda Andreea Victor, Alexandru Potocean şi Valentin Teodosiu.
Pup-o ma! directed by Camelia Popa, is a comedy in which Bică, Tică and Horică are way past the age of getting married, but they still have a chance this year and they have to grab it.
The Bucharest Best Comedy Film promotes the Romanian filmmakers at the beginning of their career.The short film
directorial debut of the famous actor Pavel Bartos will be screened outside the Romanian competition. The film is based on a true story which happened at a wedding in a village and it features many well-known actors, such as Alexandru Papadopol, Elvira Deatcu, Alexandru Ion, Vladimir Purdel, Ruxandra Maniu and Adrian Damian.The and the Closing Galas will be organized at the Grand Cinema Băneasa, Epika Hall. The special guests of the festival are Radu Mihăileanu and Horațiu Mălaele
, who will offer the audience a performance during the Opening Gala.
12 masterclasses and
two workshops detined to the comedy films are also included in the programme of the first edition of the Bucharest Best Comedy Film Festival will take place from November 23 to 26, 2019, in Bucharest, at Arcub (Lipscani street, no.84-90, Bucharest). Each of the two workshops are addressed to the comedy screenwriters and actors and are coordinated by Christian Routh and Arndt Schwering- Sohnrey.
