During his student years, being part ofthe “Attic” theatre group (from the Students House in Bucharest) helped him crossthe “the bridge” from Mathematics to theatre, with the help of Cătălin Naum.Gabriel Spahiu was a dancer in Adina Cezar`s Contemp dancegroup, he graduated UNATC (the class of professor Olga Tudorache) and now he is PhD professor in the Art of Acting and teaches acting to the students of the film directing section in UNATC. In the meantime, he takes part in theatre experiments and plays in films. The key-word: passion. He is a good friend of Radu Jude, he is in almost all of his films. Soon we will see him in Nap Toader`s03. ByPass and he will also have a special appearance in Jude`s latest feature, Scarred Hearts.
He has recently moved to Brașov with his family – the director Laura Căpățână-Juller and their two sons. He often goes to Bucharest for the school, theatre and film projects, but he found interesting things to do in Brașov as well. The ARTBURG Association that he founded with his wife organizes documentary screenings and the first edition of the One World Romania in Brașov. He finds the time to read the latest work in Mathematics, a very sophisticated scientific work, to play in the students` short films or to be on the Metropolis Theatre stage.
