Cinepub Live: Debate “Can Design Become a Political Act?”

“Răcnet (Roar) 5.0”, the socio-political poster exhibition made by the Graphic Front team of the Atelierul de grafică – București, at the National Theatre Festival – Arcub Gabroveni, brought Șerban Alexandrescu and Vlad Tăușance face to face, on Friday, October 18. The subject of the debate was “Can design become a political act?”
The guests tackled themes such as political communication at the visual level in Romania and abroad, the visual culture of the present day politicians, no matter the party they belong to, the way a graphic designer relates with organizations with real communication themes, in the age of the generation that essentially communicates visually, accepting imperfections in the electoral poster and also the effect of the excessive use of the Photoshop effect.
Does Romania need good quality design, on social and political themes? What is the difference between a political message and a protest one? Is the digital media the most appropriate one for generating visual impact and more?
All these questions were answered by the guests of the debate that you can watch on Cinepub.
The program “Răcnet” of the artists around Atelierul de grafică – București is at its 5th event, after exhibitions organized during these past two years in Cluj, Timișoara and Bucharest. The graphic design, they say, “may become a protest form, which alongside the other ones, could maintain functional the immune system of the society. Creativity, this form of freedom, is one of the most important things the Romanians won during these 30 years that have passed since December 1989.”
