Heated debates at One World Romania 2017

Year after year, at One World Romania International Documentary and Human Rights Festival, film screenings are followed by short talks with the filmmakers or with experts in the fields approached by our documentaries.
In 2017, 24 foreign directors and producers and 6 Romanian directors will keep close to the #OWR10 audience during the week of 13-19 March.
Furthermore, besides the cinema screenings, OWR is setting up every year debates focusing on various themes relevant for the Romanian society and in close connection to the documentary selection. All such debates will be held from 14-17 March at Rezidența Scena9 (32 I.L. Caragiale Street) and on 18 March at Lente (78 Dionisie Lupu Street).
This year's Edition first event is titled “In Europe for 10 years: on a run, downhill and backwards” and will be held on Tuesday, 14 March, from 17:00.  Starting from a film made in the context of East-European countries accession to the European Union, we propose you a talk on the consequences of the 10 years since Romania's accession, and also of the 10 years of One World Romania's unfolding and the way our civil society has developed during this time. The debate hosted by journalist Ovidiu Nahoi will be attended by Monika Štěpánová (founding director of One World Romania), Angela Cristea (head of the European Commission Representation in Romania) and Elena Calistru (chairman of Funky Citizens).
On Wednesday, 15 March, starting at 17:00, the debate “Health Diseases” will be held. The debate supplements the film section under the same title, documentaries X-raying the medical systems from other parts of the world, being moderated by Vlad Mixich.
On Thursday, 16 March, also at 17:00, the viewers are invited to a special screening followed by a debate entitled “On domestic violence with no fears”. According to certain well-documented reports, one of four women in Romania has suffered abuse from their partners, and 6% of them were victims of sexual abuse. Despite such figures, domestic violence remains a phenomenon less talked about. The moderator will be Andreea Braga (FILIA Centre), and among the guests will be the president of the Bucharest Tribunal, Laura Andrei.
On Friday, 17 March, at 17:00, the debate “Fear Coalition” will have as starting point the petition initiated by the Family Coalition and the fears experienced by the three million signatories of same sex marriages and families.
On Saturday, 18 March, at 10:00, at Lente, a “Legathon” will be organised. The Legathon is a marathon for analysing the most frequent human rights cases coming in front of the justice system, in order to render the essential info on such issues more accessible. This will be done by human rights experts, who are well aware of the fact that the citizen needs a more fine-tuned interaction with the justice system.
