Minimest – workshops and films for children within Anim’est 2016


     Anim’est Animation Film Festival (7-16 October, 2016) is presenting this year too its Minimest children programme, aiming to encourage children's interest for animation by inviting them to see the best latest films and to take part to a series of workshops and interactive activities with industry professionals.
     Three animation feature films will be screened in premiere in Romania, within the special section of Minimest: Ted Sieger's Molly Monster - The Movie (directed by Ted Sieger, Michael Ekbladh, Matthias Bruhn, 2016), about the little monster Molly, who is getting ready for the arrival in the world of her little sister; Trenk, the Little Knight (directed by Anthony Power), a touching story set in the Dark Ages about a boy who turns from peasant into a brave knight, and Raven the Little Rascal - the Big Race (directed by Sandor Jesse, Ute von Münchow-Pohl), the second part of the adventures of the naughty raven with a striped sock.
     20 shorts for children aged between 3 - 12 were selected this year in the competition for the Minimest Trophy, the jury being made up of little ones. These are the best of the several hundred entered by production houses and directors from all over the world, stories about growing up, friendship, courage and caring for animals, told by means of various animation techniques.
     A highlight of the section dedicated to the little ones is the special preview screening of four shorts gathered under the title Gruffalo and His Friends, adaptations of the famous books by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.
     Two unmissable titles are Robinson Crusoe (directed by Ben Stassen, Vincent Kesteloot, 2016), a colourful 3D animation, presenting a version of the famous story from the standpoint of parrot, and The Secret Life of Pets (directed by Yarrow Cheney, Chris Renaud, 2016), the latest animation released by the producers of the beloved Despicable Me. Moreover, Anim’est 2016 Edition is dedicated to anime cats that conquered the big screens – the programme including a series of shorts with famous characters such as Tom, Garfield, Sylvester or Heathcliff, but also well-liked feature films such as Pim and Pom, the Great Adventure (directed by Gioia Smid, 2013) or A Cat in Paris (directed by Jean-Loup Felicioli and Alain Gagnol).
