The film is the feature debut of director László Nemes, and in the leading parts star the actors Géza Röhrig and Levente Molnár - actor at the Hungarian State Theatre of Cluj-Napoca.
Levente Molnár plays the part of Abraham Warsawski, Saul's closest friend, standing by him in the concentration camp. „During the shooting, my biggest challenge was to avoid human feelings coming from knowing the horrors these people had been forcibly exposed to. Such avoidance was necessary in order to be able to function in front of the camera, on the date and at the place mentioned in the screenplay. My character did not have the luxury of self-pity. He had to find a way to „function like a human” at the epicentre of Hell,” Levente Molnár stated.
Son of Saul is to enter Romanian theatres on March 11th, being distributed by Transilvania Film.
