Given that introducing in schools cinema and film education is a priority of the
proiect “Filme pentru liceeni” (Films for High Schoolers), the organisers asked the ambassadors of the programme to tell us what film would they talk to high schoolers about if they were behind the teacher's desk for an hour, as arts teachers. Among those who rose up to the challenge were actors
Florin Piersic Jr,
Iulia Verdeş, director
Iulia Rugină and film critic Irina Margareta Nistor.

Florin Piersic Jr. recommends
Mustang (2015), the debut by director Deniz Gamze Erguven, a multi-awarded film, set in the traditional Turkish society, about which Piersic Jr. said it was: “an extremely necessary fable of our days. Many will contradict me. They will say it's not just a fable but the reality of 2016, in many places on planet Earth. And they would be right. Anyway, until now I haven't met anyone who saw the movie and not fell in love with Lale (main character). At least, on my Facebook page, Lale got a lot of hearts. So – enjoy!”
Iulia Verdeş: “I would recommend them to see
Moonrise Kingdom (directed by Wes Anderson, 2012). A film about strong will and stubbornness, about the passing from childhood to teenage, through a fascinating touching story, an entire adventure of an imaginary world, a story about love and escape.”
Iulia Rugină: “If I were a teacher for a day, I would urge the pupils to see
Modern Times - Charlie Chaplin (1936). I think it's easy to start to understand cinema if you take it slowly at the beginning, both chronologically and language-wise. And I think a Chaplin movie may serve easily as letter A in an absolutely fascinating universe to follow.”
Irina Margareta Nistor: “Undoubtedly, I would choose
Pădurea spânzuraţilor/The Forest of the Hanged, the film by
Liviu Ciulei (1964), impeccable cinematography-wise, perfect for explaining the war drama and the dilemmas of the combatants, but also love, friendship, respect, patriotism.”
“Filme pentru liceeni” Facebook Page you may also see the recommendations by Tudor Chirilă, Ada Condeescu, Jean Lorin Sterian or Laurenţiu Calomfirescu.
During the school year 2015-2016, within the film education programme “Films for High Schoolers”, 161 events were held in 90 high schools throughout the country, to which over 15,000 high schoolers took part.
In November, 2016, the “Films for High Schoolers” team will organise a 3-day conference where the results and impact of the method used will be presented. The event will end the first edition of the project.
