The Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) in Madrid set up, for March 10th, in the Theatre Hall of the French Institute of Madrid, an event dedicated to Constantin Brâncuși.

A screening is scheduled with fragments from a material filmed Brâncuși in the ’20s, with 35 mm camera given to him as a gift by Man Ray, and also with a Zeiss Ikon Kinamo camera bought by the artist in 1932. The viewers will have the opportunity to see the sculptor working in his Parisian studio, meeting with friends such as Marcel Duchamp, Ezra Pound, Victor Brauner, or observing, through camera lens, the interaction between his sculptures and light or the art of dancing. Moreover, the recordings made by Brâncuși in Romania in 1938 are also to be screened, made during the installation of the sculptures within the monument ensemble in Târgu Jiu. Screened for the first time in 2011 at the Exhibition „Images sans fin. Brancusi, film et photographieˮ held at Centre Georges Pompidou of Paris, the mute film could be further developed thanks to the heliographs donated by the artist to the French State in 1957.
The screening will be accompanied by a lecture delivered by Philippe-Alain Michaud of the Paris-based Modern Art Museum –Georges Pompidou Centre, who is to discuss the ways in which the film, through its dynamism and its playing on the light, contributes to the unveiling of the essence of the Romanian artist's sculptures.
The event is set up in cooperation with the French Institute of Madrid, being part of the series of manifestations organised for The Month of Francophonie.
