Cinepub premiere – „The Bear`s Eye Curse”, by Stere Gulea

In 1983, when it was released on the big screen, "The Bear`s Eye Curse" / "Ochi de urs" (directed by Stere Gulea) was one of the best Romanian films of the year. Basedon the homonymous short story written by
Mihail Sadoveanu, the film tells the story of a young forester. Culi Ursake from the Valea Frumoasei, tortured by the loss of his young wife and followed by the obsession of the eye of a beast, that seems not to find their end.
The film features Dragoş Pâslaru, Sofia Vicoveanca, Daniela Vlădescu, Iosif Stoian, Dorina Lazăr.
"The Bear`s Eye Curse" is a “polemic film, a response to the <descriptive> way, which was obvious in most of all the films inspired by the work of the famous novelist. "The Bear`s Eye Curse" is an attempt – not scoring in terms of portraits, psychology and atmosphere – to enter the mythical universe of the Romanian woods” - Călin Căliman, "Istoria filmului românesc (1897-2000)” (Ed. Fundaţiei Culturale Române,
Bucureşti, 2000).
