Celebrating the 20th edition this year, the Nowe Horyzonty International Film Festival is quoted as the best Polish film event with international participation.
Four co-productions with Romania were included in the 2020 edition:
Malmkrog, directed by
Cristi Puiu, which received the Best Director Award of the Encounters section at Berlinale 2020,
Servants, directed by Ivan Ostrochovský, co-production with Libra Film, recently awarded with one of the most important awards in the world for film music, "Georges Delerue Award for Best Music and Sound Design" of the Gent International Film Festival (Belgium), for the Romanian composer
Cristian Lolea,
Aida (Quo Vadis, Aïda?), directed by Jasmilei Žbanić, co-produced by
Cristian Nicolescu (Digital Cube), which received three awards at the Venice Film Festival (Brian Award, Signis Award and Premio Unimed nods),
Eden, a Romanian-Hungarian co-production (
Oana Giurgiu, Libra Film), directed by Ágnes Kocsis, with nominations at the Rotterdam and Gent competitions, selected in the Wrocław international competition.
The Nowe Horyzonty retrospective will also include the film
Touch me not, directed by
Adina Pintilie, which won the Golden Bear at the 2018 Berlinale. The film is in the archives of the Nowe Horuzonty Association.
Taking into consideration the restrictions imposed by the Covid 19 pandemic, the festival organizers decided to move the festival mainly online. A small number of films will be screened in cinemas (among which Servants). This year`s edition will take place at the same time with the American Film Festival, also traditionally organized in Wrocław by the Nowe Horyzonty Association. The films in the festival programme can be watched on a special platform, integrated on the festival page, nowehoryzonty.pl and they will be available only in Poland. All the films will have Polish and English subtitles and the films in the Kino Dzieci section, destined to the children, will have a reader or subtitles in Polish.
