This year, from July 20 to 29, the
Histories and Film Festival in Râșnov (FFIR) brings over 40 film productions, out of which eight will have their preview here.
The list of the films that will be previewed at the Amza Pellea Cinema starts on Saturday, July 21 (from 13:00), with The Day the `60s Died, the documentary that chronicles the street uprising in Ohio (USA), against president

Nixon`s decision to invade Cambodia and the police shootings at Kent State University. From 14:00,
68, sous les pavés ... les flics, will be screened; it is a documentary which focuses on some of the strongest civic movements and the biggest strike in the modern history of France.
Utoya – July 22 will be screened in Râșnov before the release of the film in the Romanian cinemas, which will take place in August, 2018. 7 years after the attack that shocked Norway and the entire world, the director Erik Poppe brings on screen the story of the young people who faced the

terror, the confusion and the pain of the day of July 22, 2011., when Anders Behring Breivik, a right wing extremist native Norwegian, was the protagonist of two terrorist attacks on the Utoya island, near the Norwegian capital Oslo.
On the occasion of the debate about the forced abdication of King Michael I of Romania, the documentary
King Michael of Romania – About Life, will be screened on July 22, at 11:00 and on July 29, at 15:00,
Fall and Rise: Nobility in Post-Socialism will be presented. It is a film about three Eastern-European royal families: Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha of Bulgaria, Nicholas II of Montenegro and of course, King Michael I of Romania.
In the Râşnov City Garden, FFIR prepared open-air screenings of the most successful historical films of 2017. On July 20, from 21:20,
The Death of Stalin will be screened. The film of the Scottish filmmaker Armando Iannucci (the creator of the TV series
Veep) tells – with the proper humor – the

story of the days of daze and confusion that followed Stalin`s death, on March 5, 1953.
On July 21, from 21:30, the French film
Au revoir là-haut will be presented. It is the story of two survivors of the First World War that received 5 César 2018 awards, among which Best Director Award and Best Adapted Screenplay Award.
Among the main events of the festival, we should mention the special screening of
Lucian Pintilie`s masterpiece –
Reconstruction /
Reconstituirea, scheduled for July 22, starting with 19:30. The actors ,
George Mihăiță and
Vladimir Găitan are the special guests of the special screening celebrating 50 years from its release.
Darkest Hour, the film which brought the Oscar award to Gary Oldman for playing Winston Churchill, will be screened on July 23 in the Râșnov City. On July 28, from 21:40
Dunkirk, Christopher Nolan`s masterpiece will be screened. The film received three Oscar awards in 2018 and it is about the Miracle of Dunkirk (known also under the code-name Operation Dynamo) from May 1940.

For the first time in its history of ten years, FFIR will have an official competition, which will take place under the aegis of the Râșnov Film Society. Opened to the documentaries produced in the past two years, the competition gathers 8 titles from Romania, Spain, Puerto Rico, Belgium, Bulgaria, Israel, Poland and Italy.
