The Feature Film “La Gomera”, in the Official Competition of the Cannes IFF

La Gomera/The Whistlers, Corneliu Porumboiu`s latest feature film, will have the world premiere during the 72nd edition of the Cannes International Film Festival.
The film was included in the official competition of the prestigious event which will take place next month, from May 14 to 25, 2019.
La Gomera, Corneliu Porumboiu`s first feature film made in and outside Romania, features Vlad Ivanov, Catrinel Menghia (Marlon), Rodica Lazăr, Sabin Țambrea and the Spanish actors Agustí Villaronga, Antonio Buíl and Cristóbal Pinto. The shootings took place in Bucharest, on the La Gomera island in Spain and in Singapore.
Cristi, a Romanian corrupted policeman, involved in a 30 million Euro business with the mafia, reaches the La Gomera island, in Spain, in order to learn “El Silbo”, a whistled language used by the local people. The coded language will help him free Zsolt, a controversial businessman arrested in Bucharest and the only one in the gang who knows where the money is hidden.
“A few years ago I watched a documentary about «El SIlbo». This fascinating language which was almost extinct, then rediscovered and used again on La Gomera island fascinated me and inspired me to write this story”, the director said.
