Taking place at the same period of time, the festivals
Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest (October 19-28, 2018) and the
National Theatre Festival (October 19-29, 2018) will pay tribute to Lucian Pintilie, the Romanian director who, with his personality and vision, has marked both the Romanian theatre and the Romanian cinema of the past 50 years.

“I believe this is how I was born, with a catastrophic vision and a huge thirst for love”, Lucian Pintilie said in 2003 in an interview for
România Liberă.
Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest will schedule the entire
Lucian Pintilie`s body of work and the National Theatre Festival will present unseen recordings of two of the director`s theatre productions: “The Wild Duck” by Henrik Ibsen, made at the Théâtre de la Ville, in 1981 and “The Magic Flute”, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, made at the Aix-en-Provence Festival.
The Tribute Night dedicated to Lucian Pintilie as a filmmaker will take place on Saturday, October 20, at the Peasant Museum Cinema. Numerous theatre and film professionals are expected to attend the event, including close collaborators and friends:
Victor Rebengiuc, the director`s iconic actor, the actresses
Mariana Mihuț and
Maia Morgenstern, the filmmakers
Cristi Puiu and

Silviu Stavilă. The event will also be attended by Marin Karmitz, the filmmaker, producer and distributor who stood by Lucian Pintilie during the production of
The Oak / Balanța (1992) – the film that marked the director`s triumphant return to cinema and to Cannes, after his forced exile. The event will include the screening of two films: the documentary (started as a
making of)
The Film With No Name /
Filmul fără nume (made by Horea Lapteș who will also be present) and Lucian Pintilie`s
Why Are the Bells Ringing, Mitică? / De ce trag clopotele, Mitică?. The film was made in 1979 but it was banned by the Communist regime; it was screened in Romania only in 1990.
“It was banned again by Ceaușescu: no problem, if it`s good, it can wait – I said to myself – and I went to make “The Wild Duck” in Paris, at the Théâtre de la Ville”, the director said in 1992 for the
Positif magazine.
The Tribute Night dedicated to Lucian Pintilie as a theatre and opera director will take place on Saturday, October 27,

2018 at HUB FNT /
