“That Trip We Took with Dad” to be launched in theatres

La drum cu tata/That Trip We Took with Dad, the feature debut by director Anca Miruna Lăzărescu, will be launched on the big screens on 3 February, after being screen previewed in Romania at KINOdiseea 2016.
During the first week, the film can be viewed in Bucharest, Arad, Brașov, Botoșani, Caransebeș, Cluj, Constanța, Deva, Focșani, Gura Humorului, Iași, Reșița, Sfântu Gheorghe, Slobozia, Târgu Mureș, Timișoara and Vulcan.
The feature is a road movie whose action starts in 1968 in Arad. Mihai (Alex Mărgineanu) and Emil (Răzvan Enciu) are two brothers of Romanian-German origin who have only one thing in common: taking care of their sick father. Mihai, the big brother, is a doctor and, somehow reluctantly, a Securitate informer. He seems to have made peace with his life in Romania during the Ceaușescu regime. Emil fights fiercely the Stalinist impressions, thus getting involved into situations where only his brother's cautiousness can save him. The two of them, together with their dad (Ovidiu Schumacher), leave for Dresden – the closest place where the latter may benefit of a life-saving surgery. However, the unstable political context turns their plan upside down. On the way, they encounter the Soviet tanks heading for Czechoslovakia and are forced to go to a temporary camp in the German Democrat Republic. The German-Czechoslovakian border being closed, the only way for them to be repatriated is to get a transit visa through the German Federal Republic.
“I grew up with this story. This is the story of my father. In 1968, my dad was 18. In 1968, he went to the German Democrat Republic with his family, where they were met by the Soviet tanks,” Anca Miruna Lăzărescu said about her debut feature.
That Trip We Took with Dad is a production of Filmallee (Germany) in co-production with Strada Film (Romania), Mirage Film Studio (Hungary), Chimney Pot (Sweden), Film I Vast (Sweden), with the support of Bayerische Rundfunk (Germany), ZDF/Arte and Eurimages. The film also benefitted from the support of the Romanian National Filmmaking Centre, and is distributed by Strada Film Internațional.
