Pelicam – the International Film Festival on Environment and People is preparing a program on fashion industry, within its 5th Edition to be held in Tulcea between 16 - 19 June, 2016.

The fashion industry is the second most polluting industry world-wide, after the oil industry. The clothes we wear daily hide dramatic stories about modern-day slaves working in third world factories, and also alarming statistical figures about used-up resources and emissions produced by the textile industry.
This year's selection includes several documentaries analysing various aspects of the fashion industry, such as
The True Cost (directed by Andrew Morgan, 2015, USA),
Jungle Sisters (directed by Chloe Ruthven, 2015, India/Great Britain),
Out of Fashion (directed by Jaak Kilmi, Lennart Labarenz, 2015, Estonia) and
Inside Fur (directed by Ola Waagen, 2014, Norway).
The topic will be further analysed within the Pelicam Talks. The route of the clothes made in abusive factories in developing countries up to the Western Malls will be discussed with foreign guests: Lucy Siegle (journalist with The Guardian, producer of
The True Cost), Chloe Ruthven (director of
Jungle Sisters) and Reet Aus (fashion designer and starring in
Out of Fashion).
Furthermore, the focus will try to put the topic in the context of the Romanian fashion scene, with the help of its guests: Laura Ștefănuț (journalist, author of the investigation feature on textile factories in Romania and Bulgaria), Ioana Ulmeanu (journalist with Elle Magazine, the most important glamour magazine in Romania) and Ioana Ciolacu (Romanian designer). The debate will be hosted by journalist Andra Matzal.
