The 24th edition of CineMAiubit is about to start


     CineMAiubit, the International Student Film Festival, which reached its 24th edition this year, will open its virtual doors to a very actual audience all over the world, On Tuesday, December 15, 2020.
   Along the years, CineMAiubit became a traditional event of the Romanian cultural and educational space, being the place where some of the most important names of the Romanian contemporary film made their debut.
     In this difficult context caused by the SARS-Cov-2 pandemic, CineMAiubit was forced to reinvent itself, so that the tradition may continue. Thanks to the main festival partner, the well-known platform dedicated to promoting the Romanian film CINEPUB.RO, the festival will make its debut in online. The films that are in competitions and the retrospectives can be accessed from any part of the world.
     In its almost 25 years of existence, CineMAiubit was the witness of the destruction of an important part of the national film heritage, but at the same time, it was the guarantee of the future: new generations of artists started on the festival big screens, new promising voices were noticed and later on, confirmed. Along the years, CineMAiubit awarded names which later on became the main pillars of the Romanian contemporary film.
     The festival is organized by the “I.L.Caragiale” National  Theatre and Film University in  București (UNATC) and the Cinemaiubit Foundation; the main partner is the CINEPUB.RO platform, with the support of the Romanian Film Centre (CNC), Romanian Filmmakers Union (UCIN), DACIN SARA – Drepturi de autor în cinematografie și audiovizual and the Romanian Cultural Institute(ICR).
     CineMAiubit started in 1996, at the initiative of Elisabeta Bostan, the dean of the Film Faculty back then and the president of the CineMAiubit Foundation. Frrom the very beginning the event was more than a festival, acting as an educational platform, with the role of a catalyst in the university film education.  
     The festival is structured in two competition sections, with films from 24 countries: the International Competition and the National Competition. During the 5 days of the festival, the viewers will have the chance to discover a large range of original film visions, from different cultural areas, belonging to some of the most promising students from today who will become the film authors of tomorrow.  They can also feel the pulse of the future Romanian cinema.
     The festival jury is made of acclaimed film personalities acknowledged both in Romania and abroad:
     - film director&producer and festivals founder Suzy Gillett – president (UK)
     - film critic and historian Janka Barkoczi (Hungary)
     - actress Alina Grigore
     - organizer of the Early Bird Sofia Festival, Nora Angelova (Bulgaria)
     - film director Andrei Gruzsniczki
     - film editor and professor Davor Svaic (Croatia)
     - cinematographer Tudor Vladimir Panduru.
     On the last day of the festival, CineMAiubit will present two special screenings:
     - a selection of films that were awarded at the previous editions
     - a screning from the Active Archives series: heritage films from the UNATC film archives, restored and offered again to the audience. The screening will be followed by a debate.  
     In parallel with the competition sections, this year CineMAiubit defines itself as a very strong educational platform; the festival workshops bring together important names of the film world: Melissa Leo, Herve Schneid, Jaroslaw Kaminski, Rebekah Jorgensen, Csaba Bollok, Cristian Lolea, Suzy Gillett.
     The workshops will be streamed live on social media.
