The Academy Awards Ceremony brought the film
I, Tonya an important award. Allison Janney, received an Oscar for best performance by an actress in a supporting role for playing Tonya Harding`s abusive mother. The film was also nominated for best performance by an actress in a leading role(Margot Robbie) and for best achievement in film editing. The main male part is played by
Sebastian Stan, the Romanian-born American actor who, at the end of April will come to Romania, as the guest of honor of the
American Independent Film Festival.
I, Tonya, where Sebastian Stan plays alongside Margot Robbie and Allison Janney, tells the story of the renowned figure skater Tonya Harding and is one of the most acclaimed films of 2017, with an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA award for Allison Janney, two other nominations at the 2018 Oscars, two at the Golden Globes and four at the BAFTA Awards. The film opens the American Independent Film festival this year, on April 27 and it will be followed by a Q&A with Sebastian Stan.
The second edition of the American Independent Film Festival will take place in Bucharest, from April 27 until May 3, 2018, at Cinema PRO and the Peasant Museum Cinema. The first edition took place in September 2017 and its special guests were the actors Ethan Hawke, Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly.
Starting from the tradition of the great American narrative films, the festival`s mission is to present a selection of the most recent independent productions “made in USA”, titles appreciated by the film critics and presented in important North-American festivals such as Sundance, New York, Tribeca, Telluride and Toronto.
The American Independent Film Festival is organized by the Cinemascop Association and supported by Catena. The project is made with the support of the National Film Center and of the Romanian Cultural Institute.
