“Hotel Dallas” in competition at DOCAVIV 2016

The Romanian Cultural Istitute in Tel Aviv sponsors the participation of the feature Hotel Dallas (2016, directed by Livia Ungur and Sherng-Lee Huang) in the competition of the DOCAVIV International Documentary Film Festival (19-28 May), 18th Edition,  a 18-a, within the section „Depth of Field”.
Hotel Dallas tells the story of Romania in the '80s, when the only show broadcasted on TV was the American series Dallas, which gave a view on the rich capitalists' wealth and glamour. Among the series' fans are Ilie and his daughter, Livia. He is a small-time offender, aspiring to the capitalist status, and she desired actor Patrick Duffy, starring in one of the leading roles. After the fall of communism, Ilie builds Dallas Hotel, a life-size copy of the mansion from the series, and Livia emigrates to America. She becomes a director and makes a series where Duffy dies and wakes up in the Dallas Hotel. Life and art are mixed together while Livia takes her hero to a journey balancing between fantasy and memory, in search of a place she could call „home”.
