Frederick Wiseman, invited to Astra Film Festival 2016


     Astra Film Festival is to unfold this year between 17-23 October, starting with the gala screening of Sieranevada, directed by Cristi Puiu, on Monday, from 18.00, at Thalia Hall (3-5 Cetății Street), and from 18.30, at Auditorium Hall of ULBS (Medical School).
     On Tuesday, 28 October, Cristi Puiu will meet the audicence from 18.00, at Salut Bistro (13 Cetății Street).
     One of the most important events of the AFF 2016 Edition will be the meeting with documentary film director Frederick Wiseman, to take place on Friday, 21 October, from 18.15, at the Auditorium Hall. Astra is dedicating the director a special section, screening three of his features: Crazy Horse and Domestic Violence I and II.
     Over the Festival's duration, over 100 films of the official programme will be screened, grouped in 18 thematic sections: OutStanDox, Personal/familial/social, Dis-living, Doc-Vlog, Refurbished past, Citizens of the world online, Armani, Radical Islam at home, Destines in communism, Stories from Urbania, Circumcised worlds, Meetings, Reality under cover, Great masters/recent works, Special screenings, Portrait Frederick Wiseman, The Future is Now and Astra Film Junior.
     12 European industry professionals are to assess this year's 4 competition sections: OutStanDox, Romania, Central & Eastern Europe and Student. The Jury of AFF 2016 is made up of: Alexander Weiss, artistic director of the festival Filmer A Tout Prix in Brussels, Barbara Orlicz-Szczypula, programming director with Krakow Film Festival, Claire Aguilar, programming director with Sheffield Doc/Fest, Cristi Puiu, Romanian filmmaker, Ileana Bîrsan, film critic, Julia Teichmann, film critic from Germany, Martichka Bozhilova, producer with AGITPROP and director of Balkan Documentary Center, Michael Stewart, director Open City Doc Fest of Londra, Nick Bradshaw, online editor with the prestigious publication Sight & Sound, issued by the British Film Institute, Sara Garcia, artistic director of festival Play-Doc of Spain, Veton Nurkollari, artistic director of DokuFest in Kosovo and member of the European Cultural Parliament and of the European Academy of Film, Vlad Petri, documentary film director and photographer.
     The 2016 edition programmed will be completed by a series of live music performances. The screenings of the films under the Armani programme will be followed by a fabulous concert of Armani music and by a Mara & Band representation, on Tuesday, 18 October, from 22:00, at the Thalia Hall. Kana Jambe band, led by Dan Bursuc, will deliver a live concert on Thursday, 20 October, from 20:30, at the Thalia Hall, right before the event-screening of the feature The New Gypsys Kings (directed by Liviu Tipuriță). On Saturday, 22 October, after the Awards Gala, Moonlight Breakfast will take the stage of Thalia Hall, from 22:00.
