From May 23 to 27, 2018, the Polish capital will host the 14th edition of the Jewish Motifs International Film Festival. The Romanian Cultural Institute in Warsaw is a partner of the festival and supports the presence of the Romanian filmmakers and productions at the event.

For this year`s edition, two Romanian films will compete for the Golden Phoenix Trophy:
Scarred Hearts / Inimi cicatrizate, directed by
Radu Jude and
Nussbaum 95736, directed by László Csibi, who will attend the screenings.
In director`s own words, Scarred Hearts is “an adaptation through personal interpretation of Blecher`s writings.” The action is set in 1937, when Emanuel, a young man in his 20s, suffering of bone tuberculosis is committed to a sanatorium on the Black Sea shore. The main character is mostly inspired by the great writer Max Blecher`s biography.
The documentary
Nussbaum 95736 directed by the director László Csibi presents the story of one of the last Holocaust survivors from Cluj, László Nussbaum. After the Vienna Dictate, the young man moves with his family from Turda to Cluj and the experiences presented in the film recreate the atmosphere of those days. His family spent a few weeks in the ghetto, then they were sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Over there, László Nussbaum`s number was 95736.
The Jewish Motifs International Film Festival in Warsaw is one of the biggest events of its kind in Europe which focuses on the Jewish themes in contemporary cinema. The purpose of the festival is to present the most interesting aspects of the Jewish culture, history and traditions and at the same time to promote the ideas of tolerance and multiculturality.
