Two remarkable films of the American independent cinema, made by the female directors Chloé Zhao and Kelly Reichardt -
The Rider and
Certain Women – are included in this year`s selection of the American Independent Film Festival (April 27 – May 3, 2018)

Appreciated by the critics and awarded at the
Quinzaine des Réalisateurs of the 2017 Cannes Film Festival,
The Rider, directed by Chloé Zhao, is the careful and touching portrait of a young man, Brady, a former rodeo rider who is now a horse trainer, recovering from an accident. Using non-professional actors and finding

inspiration in the life story of the protagonist Brady Jandreau, Zhao builds, with delicate authenticity, a lyrical portrait of man and nature.
Kelly Reichardt was a constant presence of the Sundance Film Festival, ever since her first feature films. The action of
Certain Women (The Best Feature Film Award at the London BFI) takes place in a small town in Montana and features three film stars that remarkably portray three women that find themselves at crucial times in their lives: Laura Dern, Michelle Williams, Kristen Stewart, Lily Gladstone.
Last year, the guests of the American Independent Film Festival were Joaquin Phoenix, Ethan Hawke and John C. Reilly. This year it will bring Sebastian Stan, the most successful Romanian-born American actor.
The screenings will take place at Cinema PRO and at the Peasant Museum Cinema.
The American Independent Film Festival is organized by the Cinemascop Association and supported by Catena, with the support of the USA Embassy and of UPC Romania.
