The 2018 edition of the
Divan Film Festival brings
film productions in premiere, to Craiova (August 24-26), and to Port Cultural Cetate (August 27 to September 1) and also important guests and musical events that are not to be missed. The selection of the festival includes 14 feature films and 17 short films, united under this year`s edition theme: “Balkan Dreams”. The music bands Aida si Noi, sZempöl Offchestra and Mambo Siria will cover the soundtrack of the festival.

The film that opens the 9th edition of the film festival comes from the Turkish film director of Kurdish origin Kazim, Öz.
Zer (Germany, Turkey, USA, 2017)is a touching road movie, which retraces the journey of a young New Yorker through Kurdistan, in his search for his grandmother`s past and for his own self. By means of Zarife`s story, Jan`s grandmother, the touches the Kurds massacre in Dersim, in 1938 and the deleting of that event in the official history of Turkey. The film will be screened in the presence of the director Kazim Öz.
The brave and challenging directorial debut of the actor Onur Saylak also comes from Turkey.
Daha(2017) is an

adaptation of a novel written by Hakan Günday which approaches the crisis of the emigrants who cross the Aegean Sea from the perspective of a 14 year old boy called Gaza.
Rudar (directed by Hanna Antonina Wojcik Slak, 2017), Slovenia`s proposal to the 2018 Oscar Awards, is a film which is based upon the true story of one of the Bosnian emigrants who work as miners in Slovenia.
The economic crisis is an important subject in the Croatian documentary
Buffet Zeljezara (directed by Goran Devic, 2017), which shows us the disastrous effects of the fall of the Communism over the local industry. The

bankruptcy of one of the biggest plant in Eastern Europe brings also the bankruptcy of the café in the neighborhood, but also the exodus of the East-Europeans towards West.
The Divan Film Festival will take place in Craiova at the Inspire Cinema and the Summer Theatre from the Romanescu Park (August 24-26) and at the Port Cultural Cetate (August 27 – 1 September).
