Harshly criticised upon release for the accuracy with which it mocked the morals and manners of its time,
Our Director is deemed as one of the most significant Romanian cinema productions. The satirical comedy directed by Jean Georgescu stars
Alexandru Giugaru,
Grigore Vasiliu-Birlic,
Mișu Fotino,
Radu Beligan,
Iurie Darie,
Puiu Călinescu and
Olga Tudorache.
”The first trulydissidentfilm of the Romanian cinema (…). Under the pretext of a benign intrigue, it reflects the malignant alienation of the veterans who put their ideals in mothballs and resort to the shell of old slogans only to maintain their power positions. A memorable tandem is made byGiugaru, with heavy contortions of conscience, andBirlic, trying to understand his role and place in the intrigue that is woven, maybe the most humane satirical portrait he painted in his cinema career“.
