The participants of the PUSTNIK Residency 3rd Edition


     8 European young directors and scriptwriters were selected to the third edition of PUSTNIK – European Screenwriters Residency, to be held from 02 to 10 September, in Portul Cultural Cetate.
     The residents of the third edition PUSTNIK are Octav Chelaru (Romania), Deben Van Dam (Belgium), Szántó Fanni (Hungary), Caroline Ingvarsson (Sweden), Iris Pakulla-Manso (France), Simona Sava (Romania), Ioana Țurcan (Romania) and Luca Zuberbühler (Switzerland). During the residency, they are to meet producers from their residence countries, among which Julie Billy – Haut et Court (France), Dora Nedeczky – Moviebar Productions (Hungary), Giacun Caduff – Caduff Entertainment (Switzerland), Jurgen Willocx – Early Birds (Belgium) and Oana Giurgiu - Libra Film (Romania).
     The programme also includes a masterclass delivered by Laurence Coriat, British screenwriter of French origin, nominated to BAFTA and Sundance NHK Award. Laurence signed the scripts for five feature films by British director Michael Winterbottom (award-winner at, Venice Film Festival, Cannes etc.).
     The residents' selection was made by Andreea Borțun (screenwriter and director, Romania), Bryn Chainey (screenwriter and director, Great Britain/Australia), co-founders of the PUSTNIK programme, and Lavinia Cioacă (film critic, Romania).
     “This year we received over 55 applications coming from 26 European countries. The selection process involved great responsibility, many of the applications being very interesting, varying from arthouse films to commercial genres. PUSTNIK is trying to create a balance between the two worlds defining the cinema industry today. At the same time, we try to bring to the residency every year creators who are dedicated to their work and who want to be part of the community that we are trying to build. PUSTNIK ethos talks about generosity, dedication and love for cinema.” (Andreea Borțun, curator and co-founder of PUSTNIK)
     With a view to promote Romanian cinema productions among people in the rural areas (Cetate Commune and surrounding villages), PUSTNIK includes a series of well-known Romanian film screenings, both commercial and artsy (Despre oameni și melci / On People and SnailsToată lumea din familia noastră / Everybody in Our FamilyCea mai fericită fată din lume / The Happiest Girl in the WorldA fost sau n-a fost? / 12:08 East of BucharestTatăl fantomă / Ghost Dad), but also screenings of shorts made by PUSTNIK residents. The films may be viewed each night between 3-7 September, starting at 20:30, at the Cultural House of Cetate Commune.
