The actress
Ioana Flora Flora is the ambassador of the 11th edition of Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest, which will take place in a hybrid format (outdoor and online) from October 23 to November 1, 2020.
The festival organizers announced that some of the outdoor screenings - the ones from the Verona Garden Pergola behind the Cărturești Verona Bookshop and from the terrace of the Recent Art Museum - will have free access.
The film lovers will be treated with hot tea, heaters and blankets, if necessary, in order to offer them the necessary comfort. Wearing the face mask is a must throughout the entire screening which will start at 19:00, in both locations.
Throughout the entire festival, every evening for 10 days, the Verona Garden Pergola behind the Cărturești Verona Bookshop will host the screening of one film, in a programme which invites us to enjoy the nostalgic heat of the summer and the memory of the vibrant years of the `80s, thanks to the French-Belgian drama Été 85,
written and directed by François Ozon and inspired by the novel "Dance on My Grave" written by Aidan Chambers. “Nobody, from Eric Rohmer, doesn`t understand
the teenage happiness and the love agony from under the French summer sun, the way Ozon does it, again and again”, Hollywood Reporter mentions.
Ozon, who was three times in the Cannes official selection and in the Palme d`Or competition, was present in the Romanian cinemas with some of his awarded films -
8 femmes (2002),
Potiche (2010),
Jeune et Jolie (2012) or
Grâce à Dieu (2018).
Cristi Puiu's latest film,
Malmkrog,
which received the Best Director Award of the Berlinale Encounters competition, will also be screened at Cărturești Verona. Based
on the philosophical texts written by Vladimir Soloviov "Trois entretiens" and shot throughout a 40 days period of time in a mansion in the Mălâncrav village (Sibiu county), the film is placed at the beginning of the 20 th century. The landlord Nikolai and his guests talk about religion, morality and war and as their discussions become more and more fervent, they end up falling into the traps of their own discourse.
The viewers will also receive a gift-ticket for visiting the MARe museum, valid until the end of the year (2020).
