The film screenings continue at the Czech Centre on Monday and Tuesday, November 11 and 12. Documentary Mondays brings
Citizen Václav Havel Goes on Vacation (2006), while
My Sweet Little Village (1985) is screened on Fiction Tuesdays.

On Monday, November 11, those who come to see the film, will follow the footsteps of the dissidents in the documentary
Citizen Václav Havel Goes on Vacation: in the summer of 1985, Václav Havel decided to go on a trip to visit his friends and at the same time to test the extent of his civil liberties as a citizen of the communist Czechoslovakia. The results were Kafkaesque in their absurdity, reminding especially Havel`s interactions with the undercover policemen, who were always only a few steps away from him. Jan Novák`s documentary reconstructs this memorable vacation, combining images from reenacted journey and commentary by its original participants with sunny, optimistic news clips that aired on Czechoslovak

television that August.
The next evening we have a stop at the farming cooperative around which a community formed and we`ll get to know the life of the villagers from
My Sweet Little Village. We can see here another side of the human relations in a country of the Eastern Bloc – the inhabitants of the village are regular people; the story centers on the relationship between Otik, a slow-witted but kind man and his work colleague, Pavek, whose family has been taking care of him for a long time.
Jiří Menzel, one of the veteran directors of the New Czech Wave continues in the `80s to make films in which his satirical approach of the society succeeds in underlying the humanity and the warmth of his characters.
The access to the screenings is free. They start at 20:00, at the Czech Centre, where the free Czech beer is a rule. The event is supported by Budweiser Budvar.
