Docuart Fest 2016: 20 documentaries in premiere

Bucharest Docuart Fest is presenting its full 6-day programme of screenings and events between 27 September - 2 October at Cinematheque Eforie and the Romanian Farmers' Museum Cinema - Horia Bernea Hall. Admission will be free of charge.
The selection of exclusively Romanian documentary film is marked especially by diversity. The 25 films in the competition are signed by students, professional directors and TV producers, 20 of them being screened in premiere.
The Festival has also a new non-competition section, „Variations / Films about people and places”, a space where real life images captured as such by the camera are gathered together. As a sample of this experience, Docuart is setting up, in partnership with ARCEN “The Bucharest that is fading away | Stories from the Jewish neighbourhood”, a guided tour about the Capital City's places and people, on 24 and 25 September.
Not to be missed at this Edition, as it was the case at previous editions, is the Focus section, which in 2016 is dedicated to the documentary films by director Ovidiu Bose Paștina. The retrospective will feature the following films by the director: Peste truda vieții, inima mea e o pasăre de foc cucerind universal/Over the Toil of Life, My Heart is a Fire Birds Conquering UniversallyPentru prietenul absent/To An Absent FriendArta apărării individuale/Art of Personal DefenceMai mulți vinovați și o victim/Several Culprits, One VictimOameni care povestesc/Storytellers, Atelier cu călăuză/Workshop with a GuideIar ca un sentiment, un cristal/And, as Feeling, A CrystalEu trebuia să joc Hamlet/I Was Supposed to Play Hamlet and Timișoara decembrie 1989/Timișoara, December 1989.
The list of features comprises co-productions with countries such as China, the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Republic of Moldova or Serbia, and each film will have double screenings at the theatres, being followed by Q&A sessions with the directors.
At Cinematheque Eforie, the Festival will make its debut on 27 September, from 19:00, with the opening gala screening the film 100 Hills (directed by Max T. Ciorbă) entered into competition in the main section, telling the story of a Swiss guy visiting with Romanian musicians who still keep folklore in their work. At the end, the director will be present together with the other film protagonists, Alexandru Arcuș and Marius Andrei Alexe (MC Bean, Subcarpați), to talk with the audience.
The screenings will be preceded by masterclasses delivered by some of the Festival's known figures, filmmakers Cristian Tudor Popescu and Dan Curean. They will talk about manipulation in contemporary documentary film, on 1 October de la 11:00, respectively about perspectives on reality interpretation in documentary film, on 29 September at the same hour, at Cinematheque Eforie.
After almost a year from the tragic even at Colectiv Club, Docuart Fest brings into debate, on the topic “How is reality perceived on TV”, representatives of the 5 TV stations (Digi 24, ProTV, TVR, Antena 3 and Discovery) that made documentaries on the events. Five distinct angles will be analysed by their makers on Friday, 30 September, de la 11:00, at the Cinematheque.
The Festival's programme also includes a live performance exploring depression. Cinty Ionescu and Sorin Păun (re)interpret and (re)mix live personal stories related to depression, starting from the interactive documentary “The Hidden Face”.
București Docuart Fest is organised by Docuart, being co-funded by the Ministry of Culture through the Acces Programe, and by the National Filmmaking Centre following its financing contests' selection.
