Documentary Film Nights in Sfatului Square of Brașov


     From 1 august and until later in September, Piața Sfatului (Sfatului Square) will be turned into a huge open-air cinema.
     Every Monday night, Brașov viewers will have the opportunity to see documentary films. Seven non-fiction films undergoing a rich festival circuit all over the world will be screened with high-tech gear. These are Romanian and international films on various themes, from nature, love or sport to political and social issues.
     Admission will be free of charge.
     The event aims at locally promoting the art, independent and creative documentaries, targeting the breaking down of classical cinema barriers and to bring the viewers challenging documentaries, screened in atypical venues. The documentaries are offered by the Artburg  Association and by the programme KineDok powered by One World Romania.

01.08. - Australia, directed by Claudiu Mitcu, Romania l 2009 l 64 minutes
The story of the national football team of the Romanian homeless and their participation to the Homeless World Cup Melbourne in December, 2008.

08.08. – My Father, the Banker / Mans tēvs baņķieris, directed by Ieva Ozolina,
Latvia l 2015 l 68 minutes
A female director in search of her father who, immediately after the fall of the USSR enjoys quick success, but he suddenly disappears shortly afterwards. Now, eighteen years later, the Interpol finds him in a psychiatric asylum in Malesia.

15.08. - Gone Wild, directed by: Dan Curean, Romania l 2012 l 84 minutes.
In the water and reed labyrinth of the Danube Delta, lies the most widely spread swamp area of Europe. A lost paradise, natural habitat to a vast variety of fauna and flora. The new comers are the horses that, over two decades ago, were left here to roam free. Through the eyes of little Ivan, a local boy, Gone Wild explores the hierarchies, conflicts and victories of the larger and larger studs of wild horses.
 
22.08. - Drifter, directed by: Gábor Hörcher, Hungary, Germany l 2014 l 72 minutes.
An intimate portrait of a rebel teenager, fan of automobile races, who tries to cope with his life full of adventures in a Hungarian village.
 
29.08. - Roboțelul de aur/Golden Robot, directed by Mihai Dragolea, Radu Constantin Mocanu, Romania l 2015 l 73 minutes
The story of Steluța, a 32-year old boxing fighter, who spent her childhood in six orphanages and on the streets, and who got to be world and European boxing champion. She is preparing for the last big championship of her sports career. She hopes that winning one last time will bring her the thing she has never had – a house.
 
05.09. - KAPITALISM - Rețeta noastră secretă/KAPITALISM – Our Secret Network, directed by: Alexandru Solomon, Romania - France - Belgium l 2010 l 80 minutes
The documentary describes our journey from communism to an original market economy. Twenty years have passed since the Revolution. Have we got were we are supposed to… ? The film is about our way from an ugly communism to an original market democracy. And who could know this route the best than the winners?
 
12.09. – Domino Effect / Efekt domina, directed by: Elwira Niewiera, Piotr Rosołowski, Poland - Germany l 2014 l 76 minutes
In Abhazia, a post-Soviet are of „frozen conflict”, patriotism is deeply rooted in time while the Minister of Sports, Rafael, is busy organising an international domino competition, his Russian wife being just an uninvited guest.
 
19.09. - Vorbitor/Visiting Room, directed by Radu MunteanAlexandru Baciu, Romania l 2011 | 62 minutes |
Without pretending to find out the answer, VISITING ROOM tries to pose a question: What makes two people, who have never seen each other, to write in a letter: „I love you very much. You are my life!” The documentary follows the story of several penitentiary inmates who found their life partner while serving their sentence. The respective partner is either someone who is free, or somebody who is also doing time.

26.09. – My Home / Jáma, directed by Jiří Stejskal, Czech Republic l 2014 l 84 minutes
A woman, two husbands, four children, seven pics and a flock of goats, who manage to survive in the last farm in the modern area of Kiev, fighting to protect their home and style of life in contemporary Ukraine.
