Graduate of the “Emanuil Gojdu” High School in Oradea and of the Philology Faculty of the Bucharest University (class of 1953). During university he wrote short stories, many of which were co-written with
Francisc Munteanu and published in “Viața românească”; later on they were collected in the book ”Mecanicul și alți oameni de azi” (1951). He made his writing debut with two books: “Povestiri” / “Short Stories” and the novel “Străinul” / “The Stranger” (1955). Corresponding member of the Romanian Academy (1974). Member of the Romanian Writers’ Union.
