Her first vocation is linked to fine arts. She studied at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Paris (1997). Then she graduated her studies in cinema at ”Hochschule fur Fernsehen und Film“ in Munchen (1999). She works in Bucharest, Paris and Munchen.

Alexandra Gulea about her film “Matei, Child Miner”:
“I kind of was born in cinema, with a father director, so for me fiction was rather there , pretty next door. Nevertheless I think that in this film, even if it does not look like, there are documentary elements which play an important part. In choosing the child for the part it was clear to me that his personality will borrow from the character’s personality so I took all that came to me in this respect.We met somewhere at mid-road . Also the place was essential to me as the story develops in Uricani.We worked with natural scenery and with people living there”
