Weekend at the Castle at TIFF 2016: circus, witches and music

A controversial silent horror film from the '20, with accompanied live by an Iceland artist and by an orchestra, and a fascinating documentary about the circus world on the Sigur Rós music, are only a couple of the surprises of the Weekend at the Castel program, part of the Transylvania International Film Festival (27 May – 5 June).
During the first Festival weekend, the day of the Banffy Castle in Bonțida will become playground and space or creative workshops and performances for children, while the evenings are dedicated to screenings and concerts.
On Saturday, 28 May, starting at 9.45 pm, the documentary feature The Show of Shows (Benedikt Erlingsson) is scheduled for its premiere screening at TIFF, about a century of vaudevills, circus shows and carnivals. On the background, an emotional sound track will be played, composed by bass player Georg Holm and drummer Orri Páll Dýrason of Sigur Rós, working together with composer Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson and guitar player Kjartan Dagur Hólm. Sigur Rós is to perform live in Cluj in July, also at the Banffy Castle in Bonțida, within the Electric Castle Festival.
Iceland is also bringing the music to accompany on Sunday, 29 May, starting at 9.45 pm, the cine-concert Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages. In the gothic atmosphere of the Castle, the original music by the Icelandic artist Bardi Johansson, played by a symphonic orchestra conducted by Simona Strungaru, will accompany live, in a spectacular concert, the unusual 1922 production.
On Monday, 30 May, from 10.00 pm, Bardi Johannsson will be present also at the TIFF House, with a DJ set mixing own images and sound tracks.
